At Palmer, students in English 9-10 learn lots of things, this includes; literature, novels, short stories, and poetry. â€‹

In poetry, grade 9s will be reading some of these poems,

The Raven, The Tyger, Ozymandias, The Solitary Reaper, Daffodils, Theme for English, We Real Cool, Oranges, Instructions On Not Giving Up, Sonnet 130, Jabberwocky, Introduction to Poetry, and America.

In poetry, grade 10s will be reading some of these poems, The Cremation of Sam McGee, The Raven, I'm Nobody! Who are you?, Oh Captain! My Captain! and The Red Wheelbarrow. These are some of the most common poems that students will be reading.

This course has a variety of activities that will help both grade 9 and 10 students express there learning like performances, art pieces, presentations, and more.

Performances, this includes making skits, (some skits that grade 10s might do are Romeo and Juliet and Of Mice and Men) for example, if students have studied the story Romeo and Juliet, students will present in a group, with a partner, or on there own and prepare a short skit to present in front of the class.

Art pieces, this includes posters, small crafts and more, for example, if students are assigned to make a poster about Edger Allan Poe, students will need to add a title, subheadings, images, quotes and more. Students will likely show it to the class and/or another class.

Presentations, this includes performances, art pieces, and more, students will learn to present in front of a crowd, this could be there own class, just there teacher, and even another class. Presentation skills are an amazing skill for students to develop because if they get office jobs or just in an meeting, they may need to present an idea. English 9-10 works on building the foundation of presenting through presentations.

Students will learn not only learn about famous poetry, novels, and writers, but they will learn creativity and presentation skills.
