What do students learn?

At Palmer, students from grade 8-12 focus on these topicsmethods and principles of Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Mycology, Botany, Zoology, Ecology. Some of these topics will only be learned in grade 11 or higher.

In grade 8, students start to dive into the idea of the Cells, Virus, The human Immune System, and photosynthesis. In grade 9, students just start learning these topics, Cell Biology, Ecology, Botany, Biochemistry, Genetics, and Evolution.

In grade 10-12, students work on these topics, methods and principles of Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Mycology, Botany, Zoology, Ecology. Once students reach grade 10-12, these subjects are much more complex and students will dive deeper into the knowledge.

Here is a more broke down explanation of these topics, methods and principles of Biology, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Mycology, Botany, Zoology, Ecology.

Methods and Principles of Biology:

  • Grade 10: Often introduces foundational concepts like cell theory, basic chemistry of life, and perhaps introductory ecology or diversity.

  • Grades 11-12: Deepen understanding with more complex topics, including advanced cellular processes, molecular genetics, human systems (physiology, anatomy), and detailed ecological principles.

Cell Biology: the study of cell structure and function, and it revolves around the concept that the cell is the fundamental unit of life.

Microbiology: the study of microorganisms that are usually too small to be visible with the human eye without a microscope.

Mycology: a branch of biology which focuses on fungi

Botany: a branch of biology that deals with the study of plants, including their structure, properties, and biochemical processes

Zoology: the study of animals, their classifications, structures, behaviours, anatomies, habitats, and all things to do with animals

Ecology: the study of the relationships between living organisms, including humans, and their physical environment

In conclusion, biology is about the study of life and living organisms.
