What is French about at Palmer?

French at Palmer is not a subject that just has students remembering vocabulary words, It will teach French in a way that will help students understand a whole new world of words, and it will help students truly discover the reason why French is the second language of Canada. This course is a new way to dive deep into the depts of French and truly learn and feel the art of it.

Grade 8-9

​In grade 8 French is mandatory, and in grade 9 French is an elective. This course focuses on basic communication skills ,oral skills, cooperation, and a willingness to participate in class activities. 

Grade 10-12

In grade 10-12 French is an elective. In grade 11, if you successfully complete Core French 11 it will be the second language requirement for university.

Communication skills will teach students skills such as presenting information and ideas with confidence and understanding the connections between language and culture.

 

Oral skills will help students reduces hesitation when speaking, and can lead to a greater ability to connect with different cultures, both personally and professionally.  

 

Cooperation will help students build valuable social and academic skills, such as listening, problem-solving, and working with others, which are transferable to other subjects and real-world situations. 

Willingness to participate will help students become more confident and fluent in French and appreciate the language and culture more. Students are encouraged to take risks by speaking and interacting in French, while a supportive classroom helps them express themselves and get better at using the language. ​​
