What do students learn?

At Palmer, students in English Literature learn these themes, periods, authors, novels, poetry, and areas of the world through literary works.

In grade 11-12 English Literature, some Periods that students will be learning about are Classial Literature, Medieval Literature, Enlightenment Literature, Romanticism, Realism, Naturalism, Modernism, and Postmodernism.
Some Authors that students study are William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, Mark Twain, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Toni Morrison, Khaled Hosseini, John Green, and for Poetry Robert Frost and Emily Dickinson
Some Novels students will study are To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, 1984, Pride and Prejudice, The Catcher in the Rye, The Kite Runner, The Book Thief, The Hate U Give, and Life of Pi.
In Poetry students will be learning some of these, The Road Not Taken, Ode to a Nightingale, Because I Could Not Stop for Death, Still I Rise, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night, Caged Bird, The Weary Blues, and An Atlas of the Difficult World.

​In English Literature some ways that students express there learning is essays, presentations, and exams.
Essays, this includes critical analysis of texts. Theses are some examples of essays they will do, Literary Analysis Essays, Comparative Essays, Argumentative Essays, Reflective Essays, and Research Papers.
Presentations, this includes discussions on themes and historical context, students will learn to present in front of a crowd, this could be there own class, just there teacher, and even another class.
Exams, this includes testing knowledge of literary terms and periods.

Students will be discovering the world through literary works, this is a very enjoyable subject that all students will and do love.
